About Khaplu Valley
Khaplu is the capital of Ghanche District and is considered one of the most serene and beautiful valleys in Baltistan. Positioned along the Shyok River, Khaplu is historically famous for serving as the second-largest kingdom in Baltistan and for its unique architecture that mixes Tibetan, Kashmiri, and Persian styles.
Top Attractions
Khaplu Palace (Yabgo Khar): Built in 1840 by the Yabgo Royal family. Restored beautifully by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, now operated as a boutique hotel and museum.
Chaqchan Mosque: A 700-year-old wooden mosque built in 1370, standing as one of the oldest mosques in the region.
Sailing Valley: A stunning, fruit-growing village just a short drive from Khaplu town, offering hikes and fish farms.
Thallay Valley: A high-altitude summer pasture valley popular for trekking and alpine meadow views.
